Single catheter gravity drainage of the right atrium or right ventricle during total cardiac bypass.
The currently employed cannulations preparatory to establishing cardiac bypass with the aid of a pump-oxygenator, include isolation of the superior and inferior vena cavae over tapes and the insertion of catheters into each of these vessels. t At the onset of bypass the caval tapes are tightened around the indwelling catheters and venous drainage is effected by suction applied to the venous lin...
متن کاملAcute pressure overload of the right ventricle. Comparison of two models of right-left shunt. Pulmonary artery to left atrium and right atrium to left atrium: experimental study
BACKGROUND In right ventricular failure (RVF), an interatrial shunt can relieve symptoms of severe pulmonary hypertension by reducing right ventricular preload and increasing systemic flow. Using a pig model to determine if a pulmonary artery-left atrium shunt (PA-LA) is better than a right atrial-left atrial shunt (RA-LA), we compared the hemodynamic effects and blood gases between the two shu...
متن کاملGiant Aneurysmal Left Main Coronary Artery to Right Atrium Fistula. A Case for Surgical Approach
Coronary artery fistulae (CAF) are either congenital or acquired coronary artery abnormalities, that have different anatomical appearance; with varying degree of shunting (Qp/ Qs); and associated cardiac anomalies [1]. Etiologies include high cardiac output state and congestive heart failure with shunting of blood into a cardiac chamber, great vessel, or other structures, bypassing the myocardi...
متن کاملSuccessful non-surgical extraction of a knotted pulmonary artery catheter trapped in the right ventricle.
A patient is presented in whom a pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) formed a knot which was fixed in the region of the tricuspid valve chordea. The PAC was successfully and nonsurgically freed from its attachment and removed. A guide wire was introduced by the distal port of the PAC and under fluoroscopy the PAC was manipulated free and then extracted easily.
متن کاملTotal drainage of pulmonary veins into the right atrium.
Anomalies of the pulmonary venous return are uncommon, particularly malformations with total drainage of the pulmonary veins directly into the right atrium. Brody (1942) reviewed the literature on anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, dealing with 106 cases, including four personal ones. Further necropsy reports have since been presented by Vass and Mack (1949) and Smith (1951), the latter also ...
